About Me

I believe that the world is a better place when more people are making music. While some of my students might pursue careers in music and the arts, I recognize that many won’t; therefore, it is my goal to instill a life-long love of music and to build the skills necessary to independently learn, analyze, and enjoy music of many kinds. These skills that build discipline, confidence, time management, communication, and concentration will translate into other aspects of students’ lives and serve them their entire life.

In my studio, we learn beyond the music written on the page with the goal of being well-rounded musicians and we work together on musical outreach projects in our community. I also encourage exploration into underrepresented repertoire while continuing to teach the “classics.” Private lessons will be tailored to the individual and include music reading, the study of repertoire, aural skills, theory, composition, and technique.

I am originally from Ames, Iowa, and am currently pursuing a Doctor of Music degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy at the University of Iowa in the studio of Dr. Rène Lecuona. I completed a Master of Music degree at the University of Miami studying with Professor Tian Ying where I had the privilege of performing the Seaborne Concerto for percussion sextet, orchestra, and film as a winner of the 2021 concerto competition. I received a Bachelor of Music degree from the Lawrence Conservatory of Music in the studio of Dr. Catherine Kautsky where I was awarded Lawrence University’s Marjory Irvin Prize for Excellence in Piano Performance.
